About

Imani Parker is a black writer of Jamaican descent, born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. She is a mother, a writer, and an artist that believes that practicing creative writing is an act of empathy.

She obtained her MFA in Fiction Writing from Columbia University School of the Arts, and her BA in creative writing from SUNY Purchase.

In the past, Imani has served as a Fiction Reader at The Hudson Review, a juror for the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, and an ACM at City Year New York. Recently, she has rejoined Brown Sugar Literary Magazine as an editor and Event Coordinator and is currently completing an Event Production internship at The Center for Fiction.

Imani has also planned and hosted literary events, including the Connect, Write, and Release Retreat (2022) and the Poetry, Prose, and Play Showcase (2023).
