About

Imani Parker is a black writer of Jamaican descent, born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. She is a mother, a writer, and an artist that believes that practicing creative writing is an act of empathy.

She obtained her MFA in Fiction Writing from Columbia University School of the Arts, and her BA in creative writing from SUNY Purchase.

In the past, Imani has served as an event production intern at the Center for Fiction, a Fiction Reader at The Hudson Review, a juror for the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, and an ACM at City Year New York. She is currently an editor and Event Coordinator at Brown Sugar Literary Magazine.

Imani has also coordinated, planned and hosted literary events, including Spectrum: A Multidisciplinary Gallery & Reading (2025), the Connect, Write, and Release Retreat (2022) and the Poetry, Prose, and Play Showcase (2023).
